The Burgess family is a human family who have resided at Fablehaven for generations, and many of their members have been caretakers. They are related to the Sorenson and Larsen families by marriage.
Known Members[]
- Marshal Burgess (deceased): Sometime after becoming the de facto caretaker of Fablehaven, he fell in love with and married the hamadryad Ephira, however he could not give up his womanizing ways. He was killed by Ephira and her revenge caused future caretakers to abandon the manor for years. He was also the uncle of Patton Burgess, who later inherited the preserve.
- Ephira (deceased): Ephira was the hamadryad wife of Marshal Burgess, who gave up her immortality in order to be with him. During their marriage, she was Patton Burgess's favorite relative and he later spoke of her favorably. However, due to her husband's philandering ways, she turned to the demon Kurisock to try to restore her immortality, who corrupted her and turned her into a dark being. She killed her husband and the others who lived there, the only survivor being her nephew Patton. Later, after retrieving the nail of the revenant killed by Seth, she caused the shadow plague that nearly destroyed Fablehaven. After Kurisock was defeated by Lena destroying the nail, Ephira returned to her mortal state briefly before turning to dust.
- Patton Burgess (deceased): Patton was a fairystruck renowned adventurer and caretaker of Fablehaven. It was his aunt Ephira who helped him become fairystruck, and he was the only who survived her revenge at the manor. Like his uncle, he fell in love with a magical being, the naiad Lena, who he wooed and eventually married, though he feared doing to her what his uncle did to Ephira. During a trip to the future by way of the Chronometer, he was instrumental in ending the shadow plague. After this, he did his best to aid his relatives by finding information on the five artifacts and even moving the key to the Translocator to Wyrmroost. Towards the end of his life he consulted with his relatives on what to do to stop the opening of Zzyx, and left a bottled message for his descendant Seth.
- Lena Burgess (deceased): was a naiad who gave up her immortality to marry Patton Burgess and after his death, traveled the world before returning to Fablehaven to work as a housekeeper. She befriended Kendra and Seth and after the battle with Bahumat, was restored to her former naiad state by the fairies. However, she leaves the pond during the shadow plague once she sees Patton, who had traveled from the past. She later sacrificed her life to connect the Fairy Queens's pebble to the revenant's nail, ending the shadow plague.
- Unnamed Burgess: The nephew of Patton Burgess, he inherited the preserve after his uncle's death. He may have been the father of Ruth Sorenson, or her uncle. He also may have been the great-grandfather of Dale and Warren Burgess.
- Ruth Sorenson (née Burgess): Ruth was the assistant caretaker of Fablehaven to her husband Stan, with whom she had three children: Scott, Carl, and Sophie. Although none of her children discovered the true nature of Fablehaven, her two grandchildren Kendra and Seth did. Ruth and her family were key figures in fighting the Society of the Evening Star and, eventually, in the defeat of the demons.
- Scott Sorenson: The son of Stan and Ruth Sorenson, he spent much of his life not knowing about the existence of magical creatures. However, after he and his wife Marla were kidnapped by the Society of the Evening Star, they learned the truth. He is the father of Kendra and Seth.
- Carl Sorenson: is the son of Stan and Ruth Sorenson and the brother of Scott and Sophie Sorenson. Not much is known about him, though he does not know about the existence of magical creatures.
- Sophie Sorenson: is the daughter of Stan and Ruth Sorenson and the sister of Scott and Carl Sorenson. Not much is known about her other than she does not visit Fablehaven often and like her brother Carl does not know about the existence of magical creatures.
- Dale Burgess: Dale Burgess is the current groundskeeper of Fablehaven and the brother of Warren Burgess. Dale cared for and helped protect the preserve during the war with the Society of the Evening Star. He and his brother are great-great-nephews of Patton Burgess.
- Warren Burgess: The younger brother of Dale Burgess, Warren is an adventurer and former Knight of the Dawn. While on a mission for the Knights trying to recover the artifact at Fablehaven, Warren encountered the revenant and became a catatonic albino. After being restored when Seth destroyed the revenant, he and his family fought against the Society of the Evening Star and the demons.
- Kendra Sorenson: Kendra is the fairykind former caretaker of Wyrmroost. She became fairykind after leading the fairies into battle agains the demon Bahumat, and used her new abilities and own skills to fight against the Society of the Evening Star. Most notably, she aided Warren in retrieving the artifact at Fablehaven, helped end the shadow plague, took part in the missions to Lost Mesa and Wyrmroost, and fought the demons after they were released from Zzyzx, killing the Demon King herself. She and her brother later became caretakers of Wyrmroost, though she ceded the position to the dragon Celebrant. Afterwards, she fled to a dragon sanctuary known as Crescent Lagoon, where she succeeded in finding a way to the Under Realm after acquiring the Fairy Queen's Crown. She then went on her journey to stop the dragon war by finding the 4 Dragon Slayers, and accomplished the task after finding Selona.
- Seth Sorenson: Seth Sorenson is a shadow charmer and former caretaker of Wyrmroost. Shortly after discovering the existence of magical creatures, he and most of the mortal residents of Fablehaven were captured by Bahumat and rescued upon his defeat by Kendra and the fairies. After this, Seth become a target of the demon Olloch because of the Society of the Evening Star, and after surviving due to the aid of Coulter, he destroyed the revenant and allowed Kendra and Warren to recover the Fablehaven artifact. His shadow charmer abilities manifested during the shadow plague, and were later stabilized by Graulas who helped him steal the Soul of Grunhold. He took part in the mission to Wyrmroost that successfully retrieved the key to the last artifiact, but was captured on the mission to retrieve the Translocator. In prison, he befriended the unicorn Bracken, but later escaped with multiple artifacts, one of which he used to heal the demon Graulas. He and his family fought the demons and he killed Graulas and Nagi Luna with Vasilis, and he and his sister later became the caretakers of Wyrmroost. However, having lost his memories while seeking the Wizenstone, worked alongside the dark unicorn Ronodin to repay a debt owed to the Underking. He then fled the Under Realm and went to restore his memories through the Titan Games. He later helped Kendra in stopping the Dragon War.
