Mombatu was the designated Dragon Slayer of the Crescent Lagoon dragon sanctuary.[1] If the protections of the sanctuary were to fall, he took on the shape of a triclops, but during regular circumstances, with the protections active, Mombatu appeared as three peaceful Himalayan cyclopses, known as Baroi, Hobar, and Tal.

He was a danger to anyone who came near him, though he would prioritize fighting dragons over other creatures such as humans. Legend also told that the original caretaker of Crescent Lagoon could calm Mombatu with a magical flute, though that method was lost.[1]

Biography

Dragon uprising

When the boundaries of Crescent Lagoon came down, Mombatu was freed to roam the sanctuary. He drove the dragons from the island of Timbuli and killed at least five of them. As he had been in hibernation for so long, many of the sanctuary's inhabitants questioned if he still lived.

When a group allied with the sanctuary visited, they went to check on a sacred pool that had been drained on Timbuli. As they knew Mombatu was rampaging there, they sent Newel and Grady to distract the triclops. Unfortunately for them, Newel and Grady didn't manage to keep Mombatu's attention for as long as they had hoped, and the triclops started chasing after the other group members. He initially hunted Hako, who was leading an emergency diversion. Hako eventually lost Mombatu and got safely away.

After a while, the triclops' concentration was fixed on another group member, Kendra Sorenson, after Ronodin gave her position away using firecrackers. To escape, Kendra drank a speed potion and was barely rescued by her allies. Mombatu continued chasing after anyone he saw, though he was improving his strategies. As he was usually more adept at going head to head with dragons, the triclops wasn't used to such small targets. Realizing they had to retreat, the group made their way to the small portion of the sanctuary which was still protected. Mombatu first attempted to chase after Tanu but decided on Kendra after receiving two-hundred arrows from her using the Bow of Plenty. Using a second speed potion, Kendra ran towards the barrier, narrowly making it in time. As Mombatu crossed over the border, he transformed into the three peaceful Himalayan cyclopses

Physical appearance

Mombatu was extremely large, standing at over six meters, and was shaped roughly like a man. He had three eyes in the shape of a triangle that reacted very poorly to stationary objects. Also, despite his incredible size, the triclops remained agile and impossibly strong. He had gray hide, like a rhinoceros, and lumpy muscles across his back, legs, and arms. It was said that his skin could resist dragon fire and that his hands could crush boulders.

Possessions

  • Wooden club: Mombatu possessed a large wooden club that he used to fight his opponents with.[3]
